About Sierra Birds Tour

Sierra Birds specializes in birdwatching tourism across the mountainous regions of the Himalayas and Northeast India, as well as Nepal and Bhutan. Its operations extend across the Northwest Indian Himalayas, covering Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. In addition to its established Himalayan network, Sierra Birds has expanded its operations internationally into Tibet and the mountainous regions of China. Its current Chinese operational range includes Sichuan, Wuyishan, Balanshan, Ruoergai, Gannan, and surrounding highland and mountain regions farther north.
This gives Sierra Birds a broad trans-Himalayan birdwatching network, connecting some of the most important montane bird habitats of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, and China.

Birdwatching Tours in China

In addition to our primary birding destination, which covers the regions of Sichuan and Qinghai, including some of China’s most important mountain landscapes such as Balangshan, Wuyushan, and the Leshan mountain ranges, we are now further expanding our birding operations across China. Our extended programme includes Fujian Province in southeastern China and Hainan Island, providing access to a completely different range of habitats, climatic conditions, and avian communities.
These two destinations complement each other exceptionally well. While our first programme focuses largely on the high-altitude landscapes and montane ecosystems of Qinghai and Sichuan, our second programme takes us into the subtropical and tropical environments of Fujian and Hainan and the  mountainous regions of Henan. This allows us to experience a much broader representation of China’s remarkable avian diversity—from alpine and plateau species to forest, subtropical, and tropical birds. We therefore operate two major birding destinations in China, each designed around a distinct geographical and biogeographical region. The detailed itineraries for both birding programmes are 1. Birdwatching Tour in Sichuan, Qinghai Gansu & Tibetan Autonomous Region for endemic birds of China & 2. Birdwatching Tour in Hainan, Fujian and Henan for endemic birds of China

Bhutan

The first birding tour that we offer during the spring and summer months, from March to May. This is our 15-day cross-country Bhutan birding tour, driving from west to east covering all the summer birding hotspots across, beginning in the western part of the country at Paro and gradually travelling across Bhutan before exiting through Samdrup Jongkhar in the east. Across this entire journey, you can experience the remarkable diversity of Bhutan's avifauna, distributed across a wide range of elevations and habitats. Spring is an especially rewarding time for birding because the birds are highly vocal and active. The second birding tour we offer is our winter Bhutan birding tour in November covering Thimphu, Phobjika, Jakar, Wangdue Phodrong, Royal Manas National Park. We begin in Phobjikha Valley, where we have the opportunity to witness the spectacular winter congregation of Black-necked Cranes. From there, we travel towards Wangdue Phodrang, where we search for one of Bhutan's most critically endangered and highly sought-after birds, the White-bellied Heron. The journey then continues towards the eastern part of Bhutan, taking us through Tingtibi, Royal Manas, and the Thrumshingla region, where we explore the rich tropical and subtropical birdlife of eastern Bhutan.
